Cumberland County Prosecutor Jennifer Webb-McRae said that on Wednesday at 9:44 a.m., a motorist notified the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Department that there were dead puppies on an entrance ramp to State Route 55 off Sherman Avenue within the City of Vineland, Webb-McRae said.
“Someone in the community is aware that an individual had a litter of puppies that suddenly disappeared," Webb-McRae said. "We are asking the public to give us information that will lead to identification of the person responsible for discarding these puppies in this irresponsible manner."
The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Department responded and found seven dead, multi-colored puppies that had been discarded on the Route 55 southbound entrance ramp, the prosecutor said.
Members of the Vineland Police Department and Cumberland County Prosecutor's Office responded to the scene.
The City of Vineland Animal Control department assisted with the investigation and collected the deceased puppies who were estimated to be three to four weeks old, according to Webb-McRae.
Investigators believe that the individual(s) responsible for discarding the puppies would have traveled east towards Vineland on Sherman Avenue and entered the Route 55 southbound entrance where the puppies were located.
Investigators are asking for the public’s help in identifying the person responsible for dumping the puppies.
